WHAT IS METHADONE
Do you know what is methadone? It is chemically described as 6-(dimethylamino)-4,4-diphenyl-3-heptanone hydrochloride. It is a white, crystalline material that is water-soluble. This has a melting point of 235°C, and a pKa of 8.25 in water at 20°C. Its octanol/water partition coefficient at pH 7.4 is 117. A solution (1:100) in water has a pH between 4.5 and 6.5.
These Oral Tablets each contain 5 or 10 mg of methadone hydrochloride, USP, and the following inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide, pregelatinized starch, and also stearic acid.
INDICATIONS
Methadone hydrochloride Oral Tablets, USP are indicated for the:
-Management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time.
-Detoxification treatment of opioid addiction (heroin or other morphine-like drugs).
-Maintenance treatment of opioid addiction (heroin or other morphine-like drugs), in conjunction with appropriate social and also medical services.
